A Modern Pink Bedroom Plus A Mattress Every Parent Should Own
So excited to finally share photos from Charlie’s room makeover, a project that I have been wanting to tackle for quite some time! One of the biggest priorities in updating the room was updating her bed….you guys, poor thing at 3+ was still sleeping in a converted crib! Please tell me I’m not the only one! I think because we had kids so close together and had to buy 2 cribs we just justified getting the most use out of it, but it was time! Plus laying on the floor next to her converted crib to read books at night had gotten really old! So the new bed mission was on and I immediately knew I wanted a Tuft and Needle Mattress for her. I mean you guys, have you read/seen the amazing reviews for these mattresses?!?! Plus the fact that it shows up in a box, and there is no lugging or transporting…I mean is that even real life?! So when they agreed to partner with us, I was ecstatic to say the least!
That mattress has literally changed our lives….I know that sounds dramatic, but hear me out, since the day we put it in her room she has stopped waking up at 5:30 am (which happened 99% of the days since the day she was born) and now, without fail, she sleeps past 7:00 am EVERY SINGLE MORNING. As a mom this has literally changed my life! With almost 2 hrs of additional sleep every morning both she and I are completely different people….like no joke, the mood has totally shifted in our house when everyone wakes up. No more cranky, I still want to sleep, get out of my face attitudes….so I’ll say it again and 100% stand by it…LIFE CHANGING! Plus the box literally provided hours/days of entertainment!
When I initially designed Charlie’s nursery we had no idea if we were having a boy or a girl, and while I feel like it was gender neutral it definitely leaned more masculine as that is my typical style anyway. Fast forward three and a half years and we have a little girl who could not be more obsessed with the color pink, princesses, and all things that sparkle and twirl! Needless to say her room was not a representation of who she is, and if you have been following along you already know that I am super passionate about surrounding ourselves with the things that inspire us and represent who we are, who we want to be, where we’ve been, and where we are going. So with that said, I knew I needed to update her room…and I knew it needed to be pink. But the funny thing about Charlie, and something I absolutely adore, is that while her obsession for pink, princesses, glitter, and tule runs deep she also has no problem getting dirty, picking up worms, climbing and jump off things WAY too high, and is a total tomboy….she is this perfect blend of feminine fearlessness and I hope she never loses it! So while her room needed to be pink it also needed a little edge to it.
So one Friday night Ian and I sent the kids to my parents for a sleepover and painted over those blue walls (so much paint) until 2 am to get everything done. Admittedly the process would of been much faster if the paint guy at Home Depot hadn’t sold me oil based black paint for the accent walls….note to self…never paint a wall with oil based paint. I also probably should have realized something was off, but needless to say each dot and triangle had to be repainted which was pretty painful.
I love an imperfect polka dot in my life so hand-painting these felt like a natural fit, and honestly outside of the whole oil paint thing it really didn’t take that long. Taping the triangles took WAY longer, as you can tell by their size getting bigger and bigger as my patience ran out!
Overall I’m really happy with how the room turned out, and Charlie LOVES it so that’s all that really matters! We have a few more things to finish up, like the art corner, but here is a quick tour along with setting the bed up (with obviously way too many photos, you know how I do) of the final room:
I love Jett looking on in full Princess Sophia and Astronaut Helmet attire as Ian builds the bed! This kid seriously kills me!
I know I mentioned it above but can we seriously talk about how amazing it is that the Tuft & Needle mattresses are this easy!! Literally shows up in a box, that I could move myself, open, cut the plastic, roll out, and go to sleep….it’s that easy!
The mirror we already had from her nursery so we just reused that, ideally I would of preferred a white mirror but this one works good enough so we kept it, same with the table, although we will switch that out when we find a better solution.
How great is this Swan from Target?! Charlie has lovingly named her SHU SHU.
This Rhino head was given to us by a dear friend as a baby shower gift and I love it and was unwilling to part with it! I mean how good is it?! The artwork and frames are left over from Charlie’s nursery so those will also be updated at some point but for now they will live here.
And that’s a wrap! A soundly sleeping little…is there anything better!!
Tell me would you paint a room pink, and how often do you update your kids rooms??
