From there I went to college, where being an athlete, my days were totally scheduled out so it was only natural that I would transition into adulthood with the same expectations. This year I finally hit the wall and complete burn out as Corporate America had me up at 5:15, racing to get ready before the kids were up by 6:15, out the door by 6:45 to make it to work by 7 while my husband Ian raced the kids to daycare. I would work a full 10 hours, frequently eating at my desk so I could keep working, leave at 5, race to get the kids by 5:30 so they weren’t the last ones at school (because that just makes my mama heart hurt). Home by 6, make dinner, baths, books, teeth brushed, kids in bed by 7, followed by laundry, lunches, and whatever else needed to be done. RAT RACE HELL! It was legit awful and I had even been fortunate enough to adjust my schedule when Charlie was born to only work M,W,F and have T,TH home with the littles and we were still drowning.

But my point of this is the art of relaxation was lost on me, and for the most part still is. I legit can’t remember the last full movie I watched as the idea of sitting still for 2 hours overwhelms me. But with that said, the older I get I am realizing more and more the importance of slowing down, leaving time and space for what may be, and the importance of not doing it all. Lately I’ve been slowing down with the kids. I leave the days they are out of daycare open for the most part and it’s been amazing watching them grow, entertain themselves, play together, and use their imaginations. Kids are so creative when we give them the space to be, when we stop trying to entertain them, and simply follow their lead. The stories Charlie tells Jett and the games they play together when I step out and give them the space to do so always amazes me. Here is a little of what we have been up to around here….

Lately we’ve been packing a lunch and heading to Wheeler Farm, which is an amazing little farm here in the city and get this it’s FREE!
